Roles and Responsibilities Our Ethos is :- 1. Become a church that reaches out in evangelism to make new disciples 2. Renew existing disciples in life and worship 3. Reach out to our Christian and secular communities in care and service We need a Children and Youth Worker who will - Work with, and where appropriate lead, teams, staffed by volunteers, to nurture and maintain the spiritual development of children and young people primarily in the Church but also in its environs. - Provide effective outlets to allow these young folk to share their faith with similar age groups through outreach and witness. - Provide practical training and pastoral support to a range of adult volunteers involved in youth ministry. - Become fully integrated into the life and worship of St Columba. |

| Salary Range £16-18K
per annum depending on experience and qualifications, based on a 37.5
hour week. Sunday and some evening working will be required. The post
holder will be expected to be flexible in occasional working outside
these hours. |
Initially 2 years with
a 3-to-6 month probation |
What will I do? we expect you will; - Spend time, initially with manager, to understand structures and
develop agreed objectives; the minister will provide executive guidance
and approve. Line manager will facilitate links to teams for planning
and implementing activities and new programmes. - Participate in the Tuesday Night Youth Club - Build on already established links with local schools and further
develop activities such as SU groups; assemblies; and RE classes - Provide pastoral support to children and young people when needed - Provide time for training and planning with volunteer helpers - Devise and implement new outreach initiatives … an example might be introduction of a drop in café - Devote time to personal development and training - Organise the annual 'October Week' and other such activities for children on school vacation - Develop and maintain appropriate links with other Christian youth workers in the area - Work within General Assembly Guidelines in co-operation with the Minister and Church Co-ordinator in matters relating to child protection policy - Carryout other duties as specified and agreed with manager as new
areas of need are identified |

- A strong Christian Faith and personal commitment - Enthusiasm for sharing your Faith - A solid track record in working with children and young people and clear evidence of success - Experience of leading Worship especially with, and for, young people - Experience of planning, teaching and leading Bible studies aimed at young people - Ability to get on with people and gain respect - An ability to communicate well with people of all ages - A self starter with proven ability as an independent leader and as a team player - Experience of working with volunteers and others in a church environment. - Ability to plan and manage own workload - Knowledge of child protection processes and procedures. |
